60 Photos included after text.
I got a call one day a couple of years ago from a friend of mine and he invited me to come over because he had something for me. It turned out that he wanted to give me several hundred older photos of steam engines that he had had for some time.
They turned out to be mostly midwestern and eastern railroads, and included photos of small switchers, and larger mainline locomotives. I was thrilled. These were the actual photos of steam engines taken by various photographers in the 40's, 50's and 60's. Alot of the photos were mounted on a cardboard backing and all were less than 3x5".
The true quality of the photos varied from the different photographers. Most were great though. However, some had inadvertently cut off the end of the tender, or the front of the locomotive. Some of the photos had deteriated over the years and had began fading. Others were just a little to dark or to light. All were appreciated by me.
As I said earlier, I was thrilled to have them in my possession. I marveled at the idea that these were photos that could never be taken again. I'm sure that almost all of these locomotives have since been scraped like most of there counterparts.
Please enjoy these photos even if some of them are not quite perfect. All the photos were in only black and white. I also cropped these photos in Photo Shop so that they all were the same size, and on some of them I lightened them slightly. That is the only editing that I did to these photos. No other photo editing was done. I wanted to keep the original appearence as much as possible.
I will not include any of them for purchase because I only sell photos that I have taken. I also did not write any captions for these photos because I do not know where they were taken or when.
I did however write in the caption area, the name of the photographer if it was written on the back of the picture. Only certain photos contained that information.
Out of the several hundred photos, I chose these sixty, and the other site pages sixty based on their variety and better quality. I do hope that you enjoy this site page and the photos it contains.
